Graphic Design Trends

Here are my predictions for the biggest design Trends in 2023. 2023 was the year of anti-design serif typefaces and minimalistic rebrands. But as the year is drawing through a close I wanted to find out what’s on the horizon for 2023. So over the last couple of weeks I’ve been researching having calls and compiling all of this information into something that makes sense. Best Tablet for Graphic Design 2023

Sans Serif Fonts

typography trends

First is the comeback of sans serif fonts. After being in the shadows of serif typefaces for the last two years it’s back. It is ready to take center stage on the designs of 2023. I think we’ll see an increase in the use of big and bold Sans serif type but not just for stylistic reasons.

Visual accessibility is a key element that contributes to the overall inclusivity of a brand and sans serif are very well known for their Clarity and legibility. meaning they translate well into any size or onto any platform making them super accessible. With the increasing growth of new online businesses, the Sans Earth typeface is going to be a popular choice in 2023.

P.S. I can see this being paired with a single-colored background creating a modern, minimal and most importantly accessible design.

Interactive Design

The next one is the packaging and it’s the rise of interactive design. To stand out as a brand you have to be memorable and adding in an interactive experience is one way to do it. Creating an unboxing experience. Where you actively get the customer involved will ensure the brand makes a lasting impact on them. And I can see this being used in the form of appealing labels Collectibles and a fun task with the chance of winning a prize.

This trend will help Brands build a deeper connection with their customers through interaction and encourage loyalty. Just look at how well it works for McDonald’s when they do Monopoly prizes. Brands are always looking for the next way to stand out and I believe this is going to be used on products trying to evoke a fun feeling like food and beauty products.

3D Realistic Type

2023 graphic design trends

One Trend that was big this year and I believe will continue into 2023 is 3D type. It grabs attention and depending on its style can be playful. But I think there will be a variation on this that will gain popularity and that is 3D realistic type. I can see this being used on marketing materials like posters, Billboards and social media. This trend opens up a lot of opportunities in terms of content and creativity for a brand. I think this trend was sparked by the rise of virtual and augmented reality and as it continues to grow I can only see this trend doing so also.

Next is something that isn’t seen much. But I think it’s gonna have an uptick in popularity and that is packaging that seamlessly lines up. because Industries are becoming increasingly more competitive it becomes more important to stand out. Especially when placed next to competitors on grocery store shelves. And this trend is something that can help a product instantly stand out and build that brand awareness with customers.

Dark Mode

2023 design trends

The next trend is something that’s seen a gradual rise over the last couple of years and I only predict it to continue on that path and it is dark mode. It feels like every device and software has a dark mode option now with most users opting to switch to it. 81.9 of smartphone users use dark mode. And I think we’ll see a switch in the way designers approach creating graphic elements with a dark mode first mindset. Especially when it comes to UI.

In terms of how this will affect design Styles, I think website software and apps will utilize a single pop of bold color to ensure they stay on brand while catering towards the user’s preference of dark mode. I don’t even think this is a trend it is here to stay.

Vintage Tones

2023 trends

Now in complete contrast to my Last Prediction, I think earthy Hues and warm vintage tones will see a rise in popularity in the upcoming year. With the growing concerns about climate change and working conditions companies have a responsibility to ensure they’re carrying out sustainable practices and hold good values. Now this tends to be shown in Brands through earthy Hues and warm vintage tones and will most likely consist of burnt oranges Browns and deep Olive greens. And I can already tell this is going to be a popular Trend.

Overlapping Abstract Shapes

The next Trend started to grow in popularity. Around the same time as web3 started making headlines and that is experimental futuristic typography. This combination of pixel elements futuristic typography and customization allows design rules to be broken. This leaves plenty of room for creativity and will allow Brands to go against the norm stand out and show their personality.

My last prediction for the design trends 2023 is overlapping abstract shapes. This fits in with a common theme that we’ve seen this year in anti-design. With social media and the online design Community continuing to grow it forces designers to be bold with their design decisions in order to get noticed. This trend consists of abstract shapes that are simplified versions of real objects. This style allows Brands to be expressive while still giving off a minimal feel. This anti-design is going to be so popular in packaging and brands that want to do things differently.

So there are my predictions for the top design trends of 2023, but no matter the trend the fundamentals don’t change
